Biomass

The new thermodynamic cycles of biomass developed by SENER have been adapted to power generation using biomass, to increase their energy efficiency. Today, SENER builds this type of plant on a turnkey basis.

One of the main references is the biomass plant in Mérida (22.5 MWe), in Spain, where SENER has installed a specially adapted high efficiency thermodynamic cycle, with reheating and regeneration, which enables the plant to obtain a performance of 35%. Thanks to its innovative design, this plant has become a benchmark in the biomass sector. SENER completed the turnkey design and construction of this facility and additionally carries out its operation and maintenance for the first two years. In operation since 2014.. 

Other important plants that are worth mentioning, given that they follow in the innovative slipstream of Mérida, are the Huelva biomass power station and the Puertollano biomass power station, which are among the largest in Spain. These are currently under construction, and in both cases, SENER is also participating in the turn-key contract, as well as the operation and maintenance over the first few years.
